The World Enduro Championship (WEC) takes place on a variety of natural terrains using Enduro bikes.  These bikes must be road legal as many of the courses include public roads. Riders compete against the clock on a variety of tests. Time penalties can be received for faults such as being late for a checkpoint or missing a section of the course. Each world championship Enduro race takes place over two days. They are generally held in the countryside, with special tests often taking place on motocross tracks or beaches.

Athletes training for the Enduro need to train with a focus on the bigger muscle groups that hold more endurance power for a five or six hour race.  Arm pump, a common problem seen in this sport and it can be eliminated by using the strong back and core muscles to operate the bike.  In addition to building the larger muscles, cardio exercises both before and after weight training, is an essential part of the program.
